Cooperage Wine, Beer & Food Making Supplies (formerly Union Cooperage) was established in Rozelle in 1945 and during this time and into the 1950s and 1960s our core business was making and repairing wooden beer barrels for all major breweries in Sydney.
In 1964 due to business expansion, we moved to larger premises in Smithfield and it was here a relationship was formed with the European community who had a need for wooden barrels and equipment for home wine making. It was also at this time we started selling wine grapes brought up from South Australia, mainly Renmark, to our customers to make their own wine at home. As this area of the business developed, we set up a small retail shop at the front of the premises to sell home wine making equipment along with home brew supplies. We also made our own wine and carried a wine license to sell in bulk to our customers for several years.
Over time and as we acquired more knowledge and experience in the home wine making process, we were then able to pass this knowledge on by offering advice, support and guidance in all aspects of home wine making including a basic wine analysis.
Today, we pride ourselves in providing our customers with over 70 years of experience. Over the past 15 years we have also expanded our family business into sauce and salami making equipment and supplies along with other small food processing equipment and home brew supplies.
